SUMMARY OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

1985

Began career in television with the South African Broadcast Corporation (SABC), Cape Town -TV Outside Broadcast Productions. Began work as a Camera Operator - received training in camera work, sound operations editing and TV operations.Moved into news as a Senior Cameraman / Editor , covering daily news as well as lengthier wildlife/current affairs documentary items.Freelance assignments included :World Television News (WTN ) Cape - the historical Nelson Mandela Release,Sky news, Entertainment Tonight (USA), Granada TV- all various insertsVaried local programming1995 Joined ITN Channel 4 News as a multi - skilled Cameraman/Editor, working in Africa and the Far East. Assisted in establishing the Hong Kong Bureau.

Assignments included :

3. Kobe - The rebuilding after the earthquake

4. Japan - Aum Shinriko cult

5. Endangered Chinese White Dolphins

1997

Established a company called Nelson Productions, shooting and directing for a wide range of companies - both local and international

Work varied from magazine type inserts - celebrities, fashion, travel, decor and entertainment to sports and multi camera shoots. Clients included :

- Head Over Heels Productions, United Kingdom - "Big five - Little five" series for Discovery Channel - BBC Natural History unit - The Really Wild Show

- Nigel Marven - "Nigel's Really Wild, Wild Show" for Discovery USA

1998 - 2002

Entered into a 5 year partnership, and established a company called "WILD PICTURES" - focusing primarily on the production of Wildlife documentaries

The company has to date sold 4 x 52min wildlife documentaries to both local and international markets, namely Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel.

- Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel These were a series of documentaries on Lions - relocation and adaptation to a new environment, the controversial outbreak of Tuberculosis in lions, and a story on lion's loss of fear of man and the tragic consequences - called "The battle for Africa's Lions"

Wild Pictures also produced a documentary on the controversial "Tuli baby elephant" saga. Called 'Fate of the Juveniles" it was broadcast on National Geographic Channel.

- National Geographic Channel

In co-production with Oxford Scientific Films U.K., we produced a 6 part series for National Geographic. The series was called "Wild Orphans", documenting the activities in and around a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Hoedspruit, South Africa.

2003

Following partnership - once again independent as Nelson Productions.

Still maintained relationships with previous clients, as well as gaining new contacts namely:

- BBC - both the Natural History unit and now the Specialist Factual unit where I filmed in South Africa for the "Living the Dream" series.

2004

Worked in Kenya and Zanzibar where I filmed for BBC's "The Really Wild Show", as well as for a new BBC series entitled "The Journey of Life". I also filmed the BBC special - "Escape the elephants" with Saba Douglas Hamilton.

2005

- Worked in Kenya on the series "Elephant Diaries"

- Two hand Productions' UK - "Michaela's Challenge" for Channel 5 TV.

- In co-production with Australian presenter/producer Lyndal Davies of Rock Wallaby Productions, I have just completed a 1 hour documentary for Sydney's Channel 10, and Animal Planet called "The Return of the Prime Predators."

- Nelson Productions is presently in production on a documentary on elephant training - called "Message in the eye".

- Have established relationship with award winning Australian producer David Adams, of David Adams Films and have filmed for his Animal Planet production on White Lions, as well as presently filming with him for a documentary on Burma.
